Eagles are large, powerful birds that are native to North America. There are two kinds of eagles: bald eagles and golden eagles.

The young hatch after about 35 days of incubation, but do not leave the nest until they are 6-12 weeks old. They depend on their parents for food until they can fly independently at around 7 months old.

The bald eagle is a large bird of prey that lives in North America, and has a wingspan of up to 8 ft. (2.4 m). It is related to the golden eagle, and both belong to the genus Aquila. As its name suggests, this species has no feathers on its head, which allows it to hunt for fish more easily as well as gives it some protection from predators. The bald eagle can soar at heights up to 10,000 ft. (3 km), but usually stays in more open areas near water where they are more likely to find food such as fish or small mammals.
The bald eagle has been protected by law since 1940 when threatened with extinction due to hunting. Today it remains vulnerable because of pollution caused by humans and habitat loss due to human development. The lifespan of an adult bald eagle ranges between 15-25 years depending on the region where they live.

Bald eagles are monogamous. Once the male and female locate each other, they will stay together for life (unless one dies). Bald eagles mate for life and generally build their nest in a tall tree near water or on a cliff ledge. The female lays two eggs which hatch about 5 weeks later; baby eaglets are called "eyasses". Baby eaglets are born with white feathers that turn brown when they get older, then black when they are adults. The parents take turns sitting on the eyasses while they're hatching so they can keep them warm while also getting food to eat themselves every few days. Baby eaglets begin flying at about 10 weeks old but don't leave their nest until they’re about 18 months old!
There are several reasons why many animals choose to be monogamous in nature: it helps ensure survival of offspring; reduces competition between males over females; increases territorial defense; reduces chances of infanticide by rival males; increases parental care by both partners; increases paternal investment in offspring.

Bald eagles nest near water because their main food source is fish, which are often found near bodies of water. Bald eagles also tend to nest in areas with good visibility and few obstacles so that they can spot prey from the air. Eagles are very territorial, however, and will not tolerate other eagles in the area. If one eagle notices another flying into its territory, it will give chase and fly above or around the intruder until it leaves or dies.
Bald eagles build nests high in the trees (or on cliffs), where they lay one or two eggs that hatch after 34 days of incubation. The female takes care of the eggs and chicks, which are able to fly within three months. They reach adulthood at 4 years old and may live up to 30 years in the wild.

Bald eagles have a long, sharply hooked yellow beak and broad wings. They can fly up to 50 miles per hour and dive at speeds of up to 200 miles per day. The bald eagle is fierce hunter with a keen sense of sight, smell and hearing. It is able to identify prey from high in the air as far as three miles away.
